Lydia happened to have gymnastics class that morning. She went to class adorned in her Birthday Girl shirt and tutu leggings. The class celebrated by singing to her. She also received special birthday stampers on her hands and feet at the end of class!
After gymnastics class, we went to Barnes and Nobel. It is a favorite spot of ours, as I have most likely alluded to before. We love to play on the train table and read books on the 'stage.' Today was extra special because Lydia got to choose a birthday cookie from the Cafe thanks to the Kids Club there. She chose a sugar cookie with sprinkles! It was HUGE and mommy got to enjoy a little of her cookie too.
We met daddy for lunch at the McDonald's in Morton because they have a play place. Lydia had Chicken Nuggets and fruit before running around and playing to her heart's content. We decided on a whim that it would be a good time to get her haircut (we were planning on going after Brett got off work). We went to the Great Clips in Morton. David Hands is owner of the area Great Clips and a friend of ours. After a suggestion by a Junior League friend that had taken her son there, we decided to go for it. Heidi, Lydia's stylist, did a great job keeping Lydia entertained as she quickly trimmed her hair and added layers. We were pleased with the results. We didn't want Lydia to lose her baby curls, but needed her hair to be trimmed. Heidi did a great job. Lydia received her first ever sucker as well as a certificate for her first hair cut and a keepsake lock of her her hair!
After nap time, I took Lydia to the Peoria Zoo. We go to the zoo about once a week to walk around and talk about the animals. Lydia knows where the different animals are and gets excited as we round a corner to the various exhibits. Her favorite animal, if you ask her, is the camel. She loves watching the African animals too. She spent a lot of time that day looking at the Tigers and Giraffes.
We struggled with where to take a toddler for a birthday celebration meal. At the last minute, we decided to take her to the Chief's game. It was perfect! She got to play on the playground, watch some baseball, run in the outfield, and eat a celebratory hot dog. What a great end to a perfect day to celebrate our little one turning two!
Her Birthday party was not held until Saturday, when family and friends would be in town to celebrate. It was a perfect barnyard success. The decorations included straw hats and hay bales and the food was farm-themed and included everything from a corn on the cob crib to hay bales and cow patties.
A centerpiece to her party was the delicious and beautiful cake from Le Bakery in the Metro Center. The assembled the perfect combination of strawberry and lemon cake in the three-tiered farm cake. We were so fortunate to have our family with us to celebrate and some of our close friends. Lydia enjoyed opening all of her gifts and playing with her friends. A particularly special gift came from Great-Grandpa Brooks who sent a birthstone necklace to Lydia. It will be something she can always cherish.
