Ellis: Table for Four: On The Move

Lydia started walking just about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I knew that this was not going to be without a few bumps and bruises along the way since she is a little motor butt with no sense of fear. Her little legs tend to want to move faster than her body can take her. This resulted in quite a burnout at the Iowa Tailgate on Saturday. As Lydia was "running" towards Oma, she took a spill and wiped out on the driveway. This resulted in a scraped nose, bumped forehead, and quite the tears. She is a tough one though, and soon bounced back, especially when she got to play with an ice pack. The ice pack made her laugh and giggle. Luckily, Dr. Anderson, Brett's pediatrician, and the Ellis' friend, was tailgating. He was able to take a quick look at her. He gave us some good insight that will be helpful for future incidents. Dr. Anderson said that typically, when children fall from their own height, they very rarely do any permanent damage and it results in surface level wounds that clear up quickly. Real head injuries result when children fall from a height taller than they are. He also said that it is important that children cry when they fall. This demonstrates that they didn't hurt themselves too badly.

Lydia did have some scrapes on her cheeks, but those were cleared up this morning. Her nose was drying over and has already scabbed. Hopefully that will clear up by later this week. Despite her owies, Lydia still looks cute! I just feel terrible for her!

The fall at the tailgate was just a precursor to the game. The Hawkeyes lost in a 31-30 battle between Wisconsin. Despite the turnout of the game, we still all had a great time together at dinner and were able to think fondly of the weekend:)
