and then she was five...

Every year seems to fly by and I am left reflecting on how my "baby" got to be another year older. This year, it's five years. This past year Lydia grew from a preschooler to a little girl. She became a beaming big sister. She learned to read, write her name, and swim. She made new friends. She formed an opinion about her wardrobe and daily attire. She developed a love for her first favorite movie, "Frozen." She developed a sense of competitiveness balanced with strong empathy for others. She completed her first year of Sunday School. She participated in her first dance recital. So much changes in a year!

As a five year old, new adventures are on the horizon. She starts kindergarten in the coming weeks and I am sure this new experience will bring new "firsts."

To celebrate the birthday girl, we hosted a swim party at Washington Five Points Center. With 20 of her friends, Lydia swam, splashed and dove into a good time. Her fascination with mermaids provided the idea for the cake and menu: Peanut Butter and JELLYfish sandwiches, watermelon starfish, seaweed skewers (grapes) and goldFISH and chips. She really enjoyed her day and we are lucky that she is surrounded by such great friends, family and neighbors that celebrated with us!

Because her birthday was on a Monday, her party was over the weekend. On her actual birthday, we took her to Chuck-E-Cheese where she played games to her heart's content. She loved the pizza and prizes and enjoyed the time with our family.
