In the heart of the tiny town of Mapleton, Illinois just South of Peoria lies a little park that honors the story of "The Wizard of Oz" in a city park. The park pays homage to the story with a yellow brick road, Dorothy's home in Kansas, the Witch's Castle, Munchkin Land and more. Today, they hosted an "Oz Fest" that included Uncle Henry's Hay Rides, Hot Air Balloon, and characters from the land of Oz. We enjoyed a quiet afternoon at this little park and walking through the story that is reminiscent of so many memories of watching the movie. Lydia enjoyed spotting the Tin Man and Scarecrow and was particularly fond of Glenda as she walked about the festival. I am always surprised with how many treasures are around Peoria!
