Zoo Play Date

Our Peoria Zoo membership is getting its workout as we typically go once or twice a week for an hour or two at a time. This week, we went with teachers and their families from school. Lydia loved playing with the other kids and exploring the zoo. She is slowly remembering where each of the animals are and will shriek, "TIGER!" when we head down the hill to the tiger exhibit. The weather was really hot when we went, so a lot of the animals were finding shade in their exhibits and lying low. The lioness was particularly close to the window and Lydia got up close and personal. She signed "mommy and lion" to indicate it was a girl lion. She also says "Mommy and Roar" with her signs. She is able to sign and say many of the animals in the zoo. She knows the sign and can speak the word for giraffe, lion, tiger, bear, fish, turtle, horse, zebra, monkey and bat. There are some others that she knows as well, but our zoo doesn't have penguins, dolphins or whales.
