St. Louis Road Trip
Our Summer Travels took us to St. Louis this past weekend with two other couples and their families. We really enjoyed our time with the Allens and Grants as we toured Grant's Farm, The Magic House Children's Museum and the St. Louis Zoo... We jam packed our weekend in St. Louis with fun and memories. We started off by driving down to St. Louis on Saturday morning with the Allen's behind us. The Grant's had come down the night before to stay with friends. With only two stops along the way, we arrived at 11am ready to tour Grant's Farm. We were able to visit with the Clydesdale Horses before meeting up with the Grant Family. Grant's Farm is a great family experience. For only the $11.00 that is cost to park, you get free admission into the park. This includes the tram tour through their elk, buffalo, and animal park before entering "the farm." Kids are able to feed goats from bottles, pet camels up close, interact with elephants and more! Lydia loved to see the tortises, birds, chickens, and lemurs among other animals. A highlight for the "dads" of this trip was the free beer samples in the hospitality tent! 
After an afternoon at Grant's Farm, we checked into the hotel, took a dip, freshened up and went to dinner at Dave and Busters near our hotel. The kids did awesome at dinner and even better at bed time. We booked adjoining rooms so that the kids could fall asleep in one while the adults hung out in another. This worked great! When we were all ready to crash for the night, we were able to wheel the pack-n-plays back to the corresponding rooms and all get a great nights' sleep. We enjoyed a breakfast together on Sunday before the Grant's drove home. The Allen's and our family were ready to enjoy a day at the Magic House and Zoo. I had heard rave reviews about the Magic House and was impressed by the exterior of the building. They have an amazing sand space in their "backyard." We opted not to play in it, but were impressed by it! The Magic House had a specific area for kids 0-5 years of age that included realistic fishing, a running creek through the space, water table, bank, ice cream truck, tree house, electricity company, grocery store, baby space, and more! We were occupied at the Magic House for about 2 hours before we decided to get ready to go to the zoo. 
The St. Louis Zoo is above and beyond many of the zoos I have been to before. Their ability to offer free admission with reasonable fees for events and experiences is remarkable. Best thing was that their "Safari Pass" that is typically $10.00 and includes the train ride, sea lion show and kids petting zoo was only $5.00 per person with our Peoria Zoo membership. Lydia was a trooper through the entire afternoon and we stayed until 7pm when the park closed! We weren't anticipating staying that long, but had so much fun! Lydia rode the carousel, interacted with the animals and enjoyed her pal, Will! I loved the Penguin Exhibit the best. If you ask Lydia, she will say she likes the camels the best. With only a 20 minute nap between the Magic House and Zoo, Lydia stayed up, full of energy, until we dropped the Allen's back off at the hotel before we headed home to Peoria. Overall, it was a great weekend, with great friends! We look forward to doing it again soon!
