Signing

Lydia's signing has really taken off. In the past few days she has added more and more signs to her "repertoire." Her newest signs include car, bus, wash hands, soap, hat, jacket, water, bath, blanket, and sometimes sleep. She loves reading and looking at her signing books as well as watching the DVD for signing time in the car. It really is amazing to watch her sign after seeing a car drive down the road or when she wants to wash her hands after dinner. Even though she isn't able to verbally communicate those to me, she is able to find the sign and use them appropriately. That being said, we are also working on her verbal communication as signing should be taught in conjunction with reinforcing the spoken word. We always speak the words we are signing with her and reinforce her signs with the spoken word. I am excited to see what new signs she learns as well as learn more myself!
