Lydia plays independently with her box of toys that we keep in the living room. She will play with toys in the living room, while I pick up in the kitchen. I am enjoying having her stay in one location while I am busy around the house. I am not sure what I will do when she starts becoming more mobile. The fact that she sits up still astonishes me. I feel like I was just cradling her bobbling head as she learned to gain control of those neck muscles, and now she is able to hold herself up for a sustained period of time! I think our Pack-n-Play will get its second wind when she starts to become mobile. Whereas we used it when she was first born, we will be able to use it again as a play yard and safe location for her to play when she begins to move around more.
Lydia is going through the "oral" stage of child development as all babies do. Everything within her reach will find its way to her mouth as she explores and interacts with the world around her. She prefers toys that are crinkly, although she will chew and bite on anything around her. Her box of toys has a collection of toys with various textures. I change the toys throughout the week to expose her to different sounds, colors, and textures.
