Six Days Old

August 9, 2009

Today was Lydia's original due date. 6 Days after she was born, it feels like she has been a part of our family for so long and we couldn't imagine life without her. It feels like she has been here for a lot longer than just a week. We continue to be blessed with visits from friends, family, and neighbors. We were especially surprised when Aunt Brittany and Uncle Rick made a visit from Iowa City. We enjoyed a BBQ with the family. Rick was a huge help with some landscaping and garden work and worked with Brett in the yard while Brittany and Denise helped a lot fixing dinner and cleaning up afterwards! I think Brittany and Rick were both in love with their little neice.

We also made Lydia's inaugural trip to Target! This trip was sparked by the fact that we purchased a lot of clothes for 0-3 months, but neglected to get a lot of newborn items because we figured she would be too big or outgrow them too fast. We were wrong. So off to Target we went to buy a few newborn sleepers to keep her toasty warm at night! I ended up getting three play and sleep footed outfits for her to sleep in and two onesies and shorts outfits for daytime. When I put them on her the next morning I chuckled because even some of the newborn outfits are big on her. I also bought some fiber bars. I tried one at the Breastfeeding Event on the riverfront and loved them. The chocolate and oat ones are the best and they are a great quick snack to have when I can't fix anything else. I will say that shopping and going anywhere in general is a completely different experience when there is a newborn involved. She was a well-behaved baby and I am sure there are many more Target trips in her future!

Lydia also experienced her first bath at home tonight. This occasion was a family affair and everyone gathered to witness the event (hence the picture below). Lydia hated the bath at the hospital, but was remarkably calm when we were at home. I think she liked the warm water from the kitchen faucet set on sprinkler mode. We used Johnson and Johnson's Bath time products that are lavender scented. I don't know if it was coincidence or not, but that night, Lydia did a great job sleeping. She woke up every three and a half hours with a four hour stint. As much as I hate getting up in the middle of the night, I love to just hold her and look at her. It is so peaceful and calm in the house and she makes the late night feedings and changings so worth it.
