IOWA HAWKEYES
Lydia went to her first Hawkeye Tailgate yesterday! She was decked out in her black and gold and ready to cheer on IOWA. She did great in the crowds and was able to meet so many family and friends. We carried her in her Baby Bjorn. It was a lot easier than maneuvering the stroller around.
We sat with Aunt Judy at the Hawkeye Game. The game was slow to begin with, but got extremely exciting in the final minute when the scored was 16-17 and Iowa was up by one point and UNI had the ball. UNI kicked a field goal that was blocked, but had one additional second left on the clock to kick an additional field goal. To everyone's amazement, the Hawks blocked the 2nd field goal as well! The crowd went wild! The play was even named Sportscenter's #1 play of the day in college football!
Lydia had multiple Hawkeye outfits to choose from. We put her in a long sleeved Hawkeye shirt to begin with because we were concerned with the sun. Later in the day, Aunt Brittany changed her into her pretty black and yellow dress and pants set. She had a headband and hat depending on if she was in the sun or shade. We asked Dr. Halperin about sun screen. He said that traditional baby sunscreen is not recommended until the baby is 6 months old and to use Zinc Oxide, the same ingredient that is used in diaper cream. We brought a tube of Zinc Oxide with us, but we ended up not using any because we were able to keep her in the shade most of the time.
